Lake Titicaca

This wondrous deep-blue lake is the largest in South America and the highest commercially navigable lake on earth. Steeped in tradition and culture, legend has it that this is the birthplace and cradle of the Americas. Here the Prince of the Sun, Manco Capac, was born, and together with Mama Ocllo formed the Inca Empire.

More than 25 rivers merge into Titicaca and give it a spectacular diversity of marine and bird life, making this a must-see destination for nature lovers. Within its waters lie 41 islands, including the floating islands of Uros, constructed solely from the Totora reed, the Islands of the Moon and the Sun, and Copacabana, among many others.
